Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Jake Willcox has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced today. Willcox, a 6-6 attackman from Wayne, Pa., earned the distinction after scoring three goals in his first career start at Loyola.
Willcox came into last weekend's game at Fairfield with two goals, one each in Loyola's previous two games. His hot hand earned him the start and less than four minutes into the contest, Willcox gave the `Hounds a 2-0 lead to two goals. He scored his third goal of the game at 7:43 of the second quarter, giving the Greyhounds their largest lead of the day at 7-2.
With the hat trick, Willcox now has five goals and eight groundballs this season. He also becomes Loyola's third straight ECAC Player of the Week. Greg Leonard was the league's offensive player of the week last Monday and Dan Bauers was the offensive player of the week on April 10.
The Greyhounds close ECAC play this Saturday when they travel to Geneva, N.Y. for a 1 p.m. game with Hobart.
