CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Less than 24 hours after his 18-save performance in Loyola University Maryland's victory over Georgetown in four overtimes, senior goalie Jake Hagelin was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Hagelin's 18 saves were a career high, eclipsing the 16 he posted as a freshman against Hobart in 2008.
The co-captain made six of his saves in overtime, including a kick save on a point-blank shot by Rickey Mirabito late in the third overtime to preserve the tie.
Hagelin also had four ground balls and helped direct the Loyola defense that held Georgetown to only five goals after they entered the game ranked 10th in NCAA Division I with 11.3 goals per game.
His award is the fourth this season for a Loyola player and the eighth of Hagelin's decorated career.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday when Hagelin and the other Loyola seniors will be honored prior to the 12 noon game against Hobart.
