Baltimore, Md. - Junior midfielder Greg Leonard has been named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Leonard's career-high five points helped Loyola defeat No. 2 Georgetown, improving the Greyhounds' ECAC record to 4-1.
Leonard took seven shots in the game and six of those shots were on goal. His first goal of the game started a 3-0 Loyola run that gave the Greyhounds their first lead on the Hoyas. Leonard then sparked another 3-0 run with a goal late in the third quarter and capped that same run with a man-up tally to start the fourth, giving Loyola its biggest lead of the day at 12-8.
With two assists to go along with this three goals, Leonard's season totals jumped to seven goals and six assists, making him one of seven Greyhounds with 10 or more points this season.
Leonard's Offensive Player of the Week honor is Loyola's second straight. Last week, Dan Bauers was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week after his hat trick against Rutgers. Earlier this season, Michael Fretwell earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The Greyhounds are 5-4 overall and tied atop the ECAC standings with a 4-1 conference record. Loyola travels to Fairfield this Saturday for a 1 p.m. game with the Stags.
