Baltimore, Md. - Senior Shane Koppens has been named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week after a huge game against Georgetown last Saturday. Koppens led the Greyhounds to victory with five goals and two assists, scoring Loyola's final three goals in an 11-9 win over the fourth-ranked Hoyas.
Koppens assisted on two first quarter goals as Loyola built a 3-0 lead, then scored three of the game's final four goals to seal the win. Koppens third goal of the game snapped an 8-8 tie, while his fourth and fifth goals kept the Hoyas at bay.
Loyola's leading scorer with 36 points and 21 assists this season, Koppens was also named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. His Greyhounds are now 5-0 in the ECAC and can clinch a league title and playoff spot with a win this Saturday at Fairfield.
For his career, Koppens has 45 goals, 57 assists and 102 points. His assists rank him ninth on Loyola's all-time list, three behind Gewas Schindler and nine behind Neal Barthelme.
