Baltimore, Md. - Senior Shane Koppens and freshman Jake Hagelin have been named the ECAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week. Koppens scored a career-high five goals and added two assists in Loyola's win over ECAC rival Georgetown on Saturday, while Hagelin secured the win with his play in goal.
Koppens assisted on two of Loyola's first three goals and came through in the clutch with three of the game's final four goals to give the Greyhounds the win over the fourth-ranked Hoyas. Koppens snapped an 8-8 tie with his third goal of the game at the 9:01 mark of the fourth quarter. He scored twice more in the final 3:38 to seal the victory.
The senior leads Loyola in scoring this season with 15 goals and 21 assists. He is the second Greyhound to garner ECAC Offensive Player of the Week honors (sophomore Cooper MacDonnell is the other) this season.
Hagelin, meanwhile, made 14 saves in the win and held the Hoyas' high-powered offense scoreless in the first quarter of play. Hagelin, who has twice been named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week, is Rookie of the Week for the second time this year.
The Greyhounds are 5-0 in the ECAC and travel to Fairfield for another conference match this Saturday. Last season against the Stags, Koppens has six points with one goal and five assists.
