Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's lacrosse team is glad to be home after suffering its third road loss of the season last Saturday at No. 3 Syracuse. With their backs against the wall, the Greyhounds will take on a formidable foe in No. 7 Georgetown this Saturday at Geppi-Aikens Field. Game time is 1 p.m., listen to all the action right here with Live Audio .
The Hoyas have won the last two meetings with Loyola, but the Greyhounds have dominated the series by winning 23 of 26 contests with Georgetown. Loyola, ranked No. 19 in this week's USILA Coaches' Poll, needs a win to move up in the rankings and make a claim for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
With five games remaining on the regular season schedule, the young 'Hounds have begun to gel and the 1-2 punch at attack in Stephen Brundage and Matt Monfett has picked up a little steam. Both attackmen have 18 points this season with Brundage leading the team with 12 goals and Monfett leading the way with nine assists. Brundage picked up a hat-trick at Syracuse with three goals while Monfett had two goals and two assists.
In goal, Loyola has seen T.C. Behm, Dan Glazer and Michael Fretwell share time with mixed results. Fretwell's career-high 20 saves at the Carrier Dome on Saturday should give him the nod in goal for this weekend's contest versus the Hoyas.
The Greyhounds have also improved in extra-man situations this season. Although they are converting at a .185 clip for the year, the 'Hounds were 1-for-2 in man-up opportunities at Syracuse while the defense held the Orangemen to a 1-of-6 man-up success rate.
A win on Saturday would bring Loyola back to .500 at 4-4 overall with three home games and an away contest at UMBC left on the regular season schedule. Georgetown, meanwhile, is 6-2 overall and both of its losses have come to teams from the state of Maryland (Navy and Maryland). Loyola is the third Maryland team on Georgetown's schedule.
Saturday's game can be heard live on both WNST AM 1570 and online at www.LoyolaGreyhounds.com.
