Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's lacrosse team returns to ECAC conference play when it hosts Rutgers this Saturday at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. The Greyhounds, who are 3-0 in the league this season, need a win to maintain their one-game lead on the Scarlet Knights. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. Live Audio
So far this season, Loyola has defeated ECAC foes Penn State, St. John's and UMass by a combined score of 33-13. Only one of those games was at home, where the `Hounds are 8-1 against league opponents under Head Coach Charley Toomey.
Last season at Rutgers, the Greyhounds lost to the Scarlet Knights for the first time in program history. That loss snapped a five-game win streak and was one of only two league losses for the season.
This year, both squads enter with 4-4 overall records with Loyola holding a one-game lead in the conference standings. The Greyhounds come in scoring 23 goals in their last two games, and are led by sophomore Cooper MacDonnell, who has 16 goals this season. MacDonnell, who scored four at Syracuse last weekend, is also this week's ECAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Rutgers has won three of its last four, most recently on Tuesday when it defeated Manhattan by a 13-2 score. The Scarlet Knights, who are 2-1 in the league, have won three of their last four, including a pair of three goals wins over Hobart and St. John's.
Saturday's game can be heard live on WNST AM 1570 and online at www.LoyolaGreyhounds.com. General admission tickets are on sale for $7 and can be purchased at the box office. For more information on lacrosse tickets, please call (410) 617-5013.
