Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Shane Koppens was named the ECAC Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring a career-high three goals in Loyola's 6-5 win over No. 11 Massachusetts last Saturday. Koppens becomes Loyola's first player of the week selection this season while senior Dan Gross makes the honor roll for his defensive efforts last week.
Koppens, a 5-10 attackman from Clifton Park, N.Y., not only accounted for half of Loyola's six goals last Saturday, but also scored the game-winner with 3:59 left in regulation. In his last two starts, Koppens has scored five goals and is second on the team with seven goals and nine points this season.
Tom Michaelsen of St. John's was named co-rookie of the week for scored three goals against Air Force last Saturday. Gross, who held UMass leading scorer and ECAC preseason Player of the Year Sean Morris to only two shots on goal, earned honor roll recognition for his efforts.
The Greyhounds, who have won three straight, are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the ECAC. They play at Rutgers this Saturday at 1 p.m.
