Baltimore, Md. - Sophomore goalie Alex Peaty has been named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Peaty made 12 saves, including one as time expired to seal Loyola's victory over No. 1 Duke at the First Four Invitational in San Diego, Calif. last Saturday.
Peaty rebounded nicely from an off performance against Penn State with a dominating performance against the nation's top-ranked team. Making six saves in the first half, Peaty held Duke's prolific offense to just one goal at the break.
In fact, Duke was held scoreless in the second quarter and only scored one goal in each the first and third quarters of play on Saturday.
Peaty's season averages are now 8.83 for goals against and .594 for a save percentage. He is the second Loyola player in as many weeks to garner ECAC Player of the Week honors. Junior Shane Koppens was the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week after his game-winner at Penn State on March 3.
