Baltimore, Md. - Loyola Head Coach Charley Toomey has been named the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week after Saturday's win over No. 1 Duke. The Greyhounds, who have won back-to-back come-from-behind games, are now 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in the ECAC.
Coach Toomey, the 2006 ECAC Coach of the Year, is in his second season as head coach of the Greyhounds. Last year, Toomey led Loyola to a second-place finish in the ECAC conference and was named US Lacrosse Coach of the Week after his Greyhounds defeated No. 2 Georgetown.
Saturday's 8-7 win at the First Four Invitational was Loyola's first win over a top-ranked-team since it defeated No. 1 Syracuse, 14-13 in overtime in 2001.
The Greyhounds played three of their first four games this season on the road. They return home for a three-game stretch beginning this Saturday against ECAC foe St. John's.
