CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Loyola University Maryland senior attacker Collin Finnerty was named the ECAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after scoring eight goals in two Greyhounds' games last week.
Finnerty's award makes it three in a row for Loyola attackers. Matt Langan was named the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Week on March 1, and Cooper MacDonnell earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on February 22 after the first week of the season.
The award is the second of Finnerty's career after he earned the honor in February 2009. He shares this week's award with Ohio State's Mario Ventiquattro.
FInnerty scored a career-high five goals last Wednesday in the Greyhounds' 14-8 victory at Bellarmine. He eclipsed his previous best of four, set on three separate occasions during the 2009 season.
On Saturday at the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic, Finnerty tallied three second-half goals against No. 3 Notre Dame.
Through four games this season, Finnerty leads a balanced Loyola offense with nine goals. He also has assists, 12 points and seven ground balls.
Finnerty and the Greyhounds will begin a new chapter in Loyola lacrosse history this Saturday, March 13, when they host Duke at 3 p.m. The game marks the grand opening and dedication of the 6,000-seat Ridley Athletic Complex. Gates open at 1 p.m., and the field dedication ceremony commences at 2:45 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets at www.LoyolaGreyhounds.com.
