Men's Lacrosse Prepares For Duke And First Four Battle In San Diego

March 7, 2007

San Diego, Calif. - The Loyola men's lacrosse team will spend spring break preparing for No. 1 Duke and Saturday's First Four showdown in San Diego, Calif. The Greyhounds, fresh off a thrilling 10-9 win at Penn State, face the Blue Devils at Torero Stadium at 9:30 p.m. EST. Live Audio.

Saturday's game will cap a weekend of lacrosse in Southern California, and like last year, Loyola versus Duke is the featured match-up and will be broadcast live on CSTV. One year ago, the Blue Devils held off Loyola to win 9-7 in front of 5,600 fans at Torero Stadium.

This year, the Greyhounds bring a veteran team that has played back-to-back one goal games and has had all three of its games this season decided by two goals or less. Loyola enters the week ranked 16th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll while Duke is undefeated and the top ranked team in the nation.

The `Hounds hope to build off last Saturday's fourth quarter, where they scored seven goals to erase a five-goal second-half deficit. Loyola's fourth-quarter production was its best since a seven-goal effort in 2003. Shane Koppens, who scored the game-winner at Penn State, is the team's leading points man this season with four goals and 12 points.

Senior Dan Bauers is Loyola's top goal scorer after three games with seven goals, while senior Dan Kallaugher leads the team with 21 groundballs.

Loyola has faced Duke in each of the last seven seasons, winning three of those games. Saturday's game can be heard live on WNST - AM 1570 and online at
