CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland junior Zach Herreweyers was named the Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday following his six-goal performance in the Greyhounds' victory over Lehigh University.
Herreweyers, who has scored at least twice in each of Loyola's five games this season, leads the team and is second in NCAA Division I in total goals this season with 19.
He tallied a career-best six goals Saturday as Loyola defeated the Mountain Hawks, 11-8, in Patriot League action, improving on his previous best of five goals recorded at Towson University on Feb. 18.
Herreweyers scored once in Saturday's first quarter, and he then scored three unanswered in the second to help Loyola build a 6-3 halftime lead. He scored once in the third and then added the eventual game-winner in the fourth quarter for his sixth goal of the afternoon.
He scored his six goals on just 10 total shots, and he leads the Greyhounds with a .432 shot percentage this season.
The native of London, Ontario, has four hat tricks in five games this season and nine in his career; he has recorded hat tricks in more than half of 16 career games.
Herreweyers' defensive teammate Jack Carrigan was named to the Patriot League Weekly Honor Roll, as well, on Monday.
Herreweyers and the Greyhounds return to the field on Saturday, March 7, to start a two-game stretch on the road. They play at Duke University in a 1 p.m. faceoff.
