These same teams matched-up in last year's season opener, where Notre Dame edged the `Hounds in South Bend. Both Loyola and Notre Dame later advanced to the NCAA Tournament and enter 2008 with postseason expectations.
The Greyhounds, ranked 16th in the Inside Lacrosse Media poll and 19th in the USILA Coaches poll, finished 7-6 last season. More importantly, Loyola won five of its six home games in 2007 and looks to continue its home-field success in 2008.
Loyola's team captains entering the season are seniors Shane Koppens, Paul Richards, David Moore and Eddie Graham. The `Hounds will be challenged early, however, with three of their first four games against teams ranked in the Top 15.
Historically, the Greyhounds have started the year well, winning 21 of their last 24 season openers. On top of that, they are 13-1 when those openers are at home. Loyola is also 13-3 all-time in its series with Notre Dame.
This Saturday's game can be heard live on WNST AM 1570 or online at WNST.net and LoyolaGreyhounds.com. Face-off from Diane Geppi-Aikens Field is slated for 1 p.m.
