BALTIMORE - Less than a month prior to the first game of the season, the Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team garnered the No. 7 spot in the preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches' Poll.
The Greyhounds open the 2015 regular-season on Saturday, Feb. 7, and will host the first matchup of teams ranked in the top-10 when the University of Virginia comes to Ridley Athletic Complex. The Cavaliers check in at No. 9 in the preseason poll.
The University of Denver is ranked first by the coaches in this version of the poll, followed by the University of Notre Dame, Duke University, Syracuse University and Johns Hopkins University in the top-5. The University of North Carolina, Loyola, the University of Maryland, Virginia and Cornell University round out the top-10.
Two of Loyola's Patriot League counterparts are also ranked in the top-20: Lehigh University (18) and the U.S. Military Academy (20).
In addition to the Cavaliers and Patriot League opponents, Loyola is set to face three other squads ranked in the preseason poll: Duke (3), Maryland (8) and Penn State University (14). The Nittany Lions will follow Virginia to Ridley for a week two contest on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Last season, the Greyhounds finished the year with a 15-2 overall record and were ranked No. 1 for the last seven weeks of the regular-season.
