Men's Golf Earns No. 3 Regional Ranking For Fall Success

Nov. 30, 2006

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's golf team earned a No. 3 ranking in the final Mid-Atlantic Region rankings for the fall. The Greyhounds, who closed the first half of their schedule with a team title at Navy and runner-up finishes at the Joe Agee Invitational and Crowne Plaza Colonial, are third to Maryland and Penn State.

"We had a very good start to our season. The fall proved to be very competitive and I'm happy with the way we responded to the field of play," says Loyola Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "I'm looking forward to a challenging spring and hope we can sustain the momentum of the fall."

With the emergence of sophomore Blake Furgerson, who opened the year with rounds of 69 to lead Loyola to a championship at the Navy Fall Invitational, and the solid play of senior Will Shriver and sophomore standout Michael Mulieri, the `Hounds had their most consistent fall in recent memory.

Playing in six fall tournaments, Loyola finished no worse than sixth in any event. Furgerson shot the low round of the fall - a 66 at the Joe Agee Invitational en route to a second-place finish himself.

The Greyhounds begin the spring at the Pala Mesa Invitational on February 12 and play six regular season events before the MAAC Championships, April 26-28 in Orlando, Fla.
