George Named WMGA Junior Golfer Of The Year

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Freshman Bart George has been named the recipient of the 2011 Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Harry Pitt Junior Golfer of the Year.

George captured both the Bobby Gorin and Bob Riley titles this past summer before coming to Loyola this fall. While with the Greyhounds, George finished his inaugural season second on the team with a 79.92 stroke average. George competed in three tournaments, finishing under par through three rounds.

The Arnold, Md., native led the team at The McLaughlin on Sept. 15-16, finishing tied for 22nd after shooting 72-68-74 for a 4-over 214. His second round score of 68 was his best round through the fall season. George also finished second on the team at the Hartford Hawks Invitational on Sept. 26-27, carding a 7-over 223 to finish tied for 19th overall (75-73-75).

At the Cobra-PUMA Invitational on October 2-3, George finished with an 8-over 224 after shooting a 73-77-74.

George succeeds three-time winner Denny McCarthy as the WMGA’s junior golfer of the year.
