Baltimore, Md. - Loyola's Michael Mulieri was selected as the MAAC Golfer of the Month on Thursday after cracking the Top-Ten in two tournaments for the Greyhounds in October.
Mulieri, a senior from Silver Spring, Md., placed ninth in individual play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Norman, Ill., earlier in the month. He finished with a three-round total of 214, firing rounds of 69-72-73. The Greyhounds finished fifth in the 15-team field, while the only teams finishing ahead of Loyola being from the hosting state of Illinois.
At the Santa Clara Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif., Mulieri finished in a tie for sixth-place honors. He was just one of six players to finish at even-par or better on the final day at the challenging par-71, 6709 yard Silver Creek Country Club. He carded a final-round 71 for a three-round aggregate of 217 (71, 75, and 71). The Greyhounds finished sixth in the tournament.
"Not only is Mike a great player he is also an excellent role model to our other players," Head Coach Tom Beidleman said. "The way that Mike finished the fall is hopefully an indication of how well he'll perform in the spring."
Mulieri also won MAAC Golfer of the Month awards in March and April of the 2008 season.
The Greyhounds begin their spring campaign on Feb. 16, 2009, at the Jacksonville Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
