EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland senior Jay Mulieri has been selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Men’s Golfer of the Month for October, as announced by the league office Tuesday. Mulieri was also named the MAAC Golfer of the Month for September and share’s this month’s honor with Siena’s Justin Deitz.
A native of Silver Spring, Md., Mulieri concluded the fall season with two top-five finishes in each of Loyola’s tournaments through October – the COBRA-Puma Invitational (Oct. 2-3) and the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate (Oct. 21-23).
Mulieri finished four of six the rounds throughout the month at under par, including shooting an 8-under 208 at the COBRA-Puma Invitational to finish third overall. Mulieri finished the first round of the tournament with a season-best 6-under 66, before carding a 1-under 71 in the second and third round to lead Loyola to a third-place finish.
At the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate, Mulieri led the Greyhounds to a runner-up finish, taking fourth place overall with a 221. The senior shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to move up four places on the leaderboard.
For the fall season, Mulieri led the team with a 71.33 stroke average and a 71.5 average through October. He was at par or under through eight of the 15 rounds he played.
This marks the second career monthly award for Mulieri and his second this fall.
