LEMONT, Ill. - The Greyhounds completed the third and final round of play of DePaul's John Dallio Memorial Monday afternoon with a 54-hole score of 974. Sophomore Jay Mulieri carded an 80 to give Loyola its low round of the day.
Loyola had a rough go at it in three rounds at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. The Greyhounds finished in 16th, while the host school ran away with the title. University of Detroit Mercy finished a distant second with Western Illinois four strokes away.
Mulieri cruised along during his front nine until doubling hole No. 8. After making the turn Mulieri began to struggle. Mulieri looked to be gaining ground after going birdie-birdie in later holes on the back nine, but a bogey and a par ended his round, and put him in a tie for 44th at 21-over (237; 83-74-80).
Mulieri carded eight birdies over three rounds, on of the highest totals of the field.
A trio of Loyola golfers all finished tied for 65th, with Keith Hall a few strokes away from his teammates, tied for 79th. Alex Redfearn, Ryan McCarthy and Jon Ross all finished with 54-holes scores of 247.
Ross got off to the best start for the Greyhounds posting an opening round 76 Sunday, but went on to shoot 82-89 in the final rounds to finish 31-over for the event. Redfearn went 82-81-84 and McCarthy went 84-78-85.
Hall shot rounds of 81-81-90 to finish with a 36-over 252.
The Greyhounds will get a few practice days in this week to prep for the upcoming Mission Inn Invitational. Loyola will head down to Howey in the Hills, Fla., for the three-day event later this week.
