Former Greyhound Golfer Qualifies for the U.S. Mid-Amateur

Sept. 3, 2009

Baltimore - Loyola golf alum T.J. Shuart solidified a spot in the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship last weekend with a sectional qualifier win. The Coral Springs, Fla., native shot a 71 at Redstone Golf Club to qualify for the event for the second straight year.

Last year, Shuart was 4-over after two rounds of stroke play at Brown Deer Park Golf Club in Milwaukee. Shuart advanced to match play but fell short by one stroke in his match at Milwaukee Country Club.

Shuart also played in last year's U.S. Amatuer at Pinehurst, along with former Greyhound golfers Matt Bassler and Chris Derby.

One of Loyola's top all-time performers, Shuart was the MAAC champion as a junior in 2004, tied for second as a senior and helped the Greyhounds capture three consecutive conference titles (2003-2005).

The Mid-Am will be held Oct. 3-8, at the Kiawah Island Club's Cassique course in Kiawah, S.C.
