IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Loyola University Maryland men's golf Head Coach Chris Baloga leads the Maryland Mid-Amateur Championship by three strokes after shooting an opening day 6-under 66.
Baloga scattered six birdies, nine pars and an eagle over the first round of play at Holly Hills Country Club to lead the field. Baloga opened the day with a par before carding an eagle on the second hole, becoming the only player in the tournament to accomplish that feat.
Two bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes brought Baloga to 3-under at the turn but the coach sailed through the back nine, avoiding any bogeys and producing three birdies for a 66.
After the tournament, Baloga will head to University Place, Wash., for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Baloga tees off for the second and final round Friday at 10:50 a.m. Click here to view the tournament's Web site.
