CARLISLE, Pa. - Chris Baloga, who is entering his fifth year as the head golf coach at Loyola University Maryland, parred the fifth playoff hole at Carlisle Country Club, earning a spot in the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Baloga, the 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year, shot a 1-over par 71 during the 18-hole stroke play, tying with two other golfers for the final qualifying spot. He parred all five playoff holes, however, to outlast the other two in the playoff and earn a ticket to the event that will be held September 6-11, 2014, at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
The Mid-Amateur, which is open to the top amateur golfers 25 years of age or older, will be Baloga's first. He played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship, as well. Earlier this summer, Baloga reached the final of the 93rd Maryland Amateur Championship.
Four players with Loyola ties -- current student-athletes Keegan Boone '16 and Bart George '15 and alumni Matt Bassler '08 and T.J. Shuart '05 -- will compete this month at the U.S. Amateur in the Atlanta area.
