BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland rising senior Connor Flach has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, while the men's golf team has been honored as an All-Academic Team, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Flach, one of just two Patriot League golfers among the 206 honored from NCAA Division I, has been a mainstay in the Greyhounds' lineup the past three years. Helping Loyola to three-straight conference championships -- a MAAC title in 2013 and back-to-back Patriot League Championships in 2014 and 2015 -- he has a three-year stroke average of 75.22, including finishing this season at 74.67. A business administration major from Ellicott City, Maryland, Flach carries a 3.81 grade-point average and made his second-straight appearance on the Patriot League's All-Academic Team this year. A two-time All-Patriot League Second Team performer, Flach finished tied for ninth at this year's conference championship with a 7-over 220.
Throughout the year, Flach competed in all 11 tournaments and finished the season second on the team with a 74.39 stroke average. He shot par-or-better through eight rounds and recorded four top-20 finishes, as he was fourth at the season-opening Rod Myers, tied for 15th at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic, tied for 18th at the Maryland Intercollegiate and tied for ninth at the Patriot League Championships.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. This also marks the seventh-straight year the Greyhounds have been honored as an All-Academic Team by the association.
The Greyhounds are one of 169 teams in the NCAA Division I to earn All-Academic status, which goes to teams with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. In addition, Loyola is the lone program from the Patriot League to be honored.
