Loyola Golfers Find Success On Collegiate Players Tour

July 21, 2004

Orlando, Fla. - Loyola College golfers David Atkinson and Tommy Villani completed play at the 2004 Magnolia Open today, placing third and fourth respectively in the Collegiate Players Tour event. The tournament, a three-day event in Orlando, Fla., took place on Disney's Magnolia Course, site of Loyola's impressive 2003 MAAC Championship title run.

Atkinson, who enters his senior year at Loyola, finished one stroke out of a tie for first place. His rounds of 73-73-75 propelled him to a third-place finish while Villani posted rounds of 76-73-73 to finish one stroke back of Atkinson, whose rounds of 73 bested his top collegiate rounds of 74.

Villani, a sophomore in 2004-05, finished his freshman season with a 79.7 scoring average. Like Atkinson, Villani entered this week's tournament with a personal-best collegiate round of 74 before shooting two rounds of 73.

The Collegiate Players Tour, a non-profit corporation, is in its 11th summer of organization. A Board of Directors comprised of eight prominent business people oversee and approve the annual running of The Collegiate Players Tour, which is NCAA and USGA approved.

The next Collegiate Players Tour event will take place July 26-28 at the Ute Creek Golf Course in Longmont, Colo. The Collegiate Players Tour Championship takes place August 9-12 at the Texas Star Golf Course in Euless, Texas.
