Baltimore, Md. - Loyola College golf coach Tom Beidleman has added Michael Mulieri to his 2005-06 recruiting class. Mulieri, a local product out of Silver Spring, joins Ohio native Blake Furgerson, who signed a letter of intent at Loyola last November.
"Both of these recruits are impact players," says Beidleman. "They're long off the tee, have imaginative short games and have the ability to score."
Extending Loyola's Gonzaga Prep pipeline, Mulieri joins former high school teammates Will Shriver and Chris Derby in the Greyhound lineup. Last season at Gonzaga, Mulieri captained the golf team to the WCAC Championship and was nationally recognized as a third-team member of the FCWT Junior Golf Tour.
Furgerson was named the 2003 Player of the Year by the Ohio Golf Course Owners Association and has been a Northern Ohio High School Coaches Association first-team member each of his first three seasons at St. Edwards High School. He has also been team captain and Player of the Year in each of his seasons at St. Edwards.
"Both Blake and Michael are significant signings for the program," says Beidleman. "Both have considerable experience in national junior events and both have experienced their fair share of success. They come from winning programs, which is very important to me."
Loyola has advanced to the last three NCAA Golf Tournaments and hosted the 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club this past June.
