June 12, 2006

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola golfers Will Shriver and Michael Mulieri played their way into the Maryland Amateur Championship quarterfinals over the weekend at Elkridge. Shriver and Mulieri, who both return for the Greyhounds in 2006-07, qualified and advanced to the match-play tournament's Round of 8.

Both golfers were retired on Saturday after an impressive run to the quarters. Mulieri fell 3 and 2 to Jeff Castle while Shriver was edged out by Jeff Scheffres, 15 and 16.

In his match against Scheffres, Shriver won No. 17 to even things up, but fell when Scheffres rolled in a sixty-foot putt on the 18th green. Mulieri fell behind in his match with Castle when he dropped Nos. 10 and 11 despite his par score for the afternoon.

The four-day tournament was the 85th Maryland Men's Amateur Championship and is run by the Maryland State Golf Association.
