Four With Loyola Ties Competing In Maryland Amateur

PHOENIX, Md. - Loyola University Maryland senior-to-be Ryan McCarthy, junior-to-be Jason Burton and two others with ties to the Greyhounds' golf program are in match-play competition on Friday at Hillendale Country Club in the 90th Maryland State Amateur.

Mike Mulieri, a 2009 graduate of the school and two-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion, tied for medalist honors in stroke play competition on Thursday and is one of the top four seeds in the match play.

Loyola Head Coach Chris Baloga finished in a tie for eighth at 1-over par and also advanced to match play.

McCarthy, who was 3-over in the stroke play faced fifth-seeded Brett Williams in early match-play action on Friday and lost, 4 and 3. Burton, who was seeded 12th in the match play, fell 5 and 4 to Billy Kennedy in the first round of match play.
