BALTIMORE - The Loyola College men's golf team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the 2008 NCAA Central Regional that will be held May 15-17 at the Scarlet Golf Course at The Ohio State University.
The Greyhounds, who won the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship, will participate in the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time in program history. Loyola played in the Central Regional in 2005.
"We are excited to be back in the NCAA Tournament," senior co-captain Chris Derby said following the NCAA selection conference call. "We have worked hard all season, and this is part of our goal to get to the tournament. This is a great experience, especially for the guys who haven't been there before."
Junior Michael Mulieri won medalist honors at the MAAC Championships, the second tournament he won this spring. He also posted a victory at the LaCrosse Homes Golf Collegiate Invitational.
Mulieri will be joined by Derby and fellow senior Matt Bassler at the NCAA Regional. Bassler posted two sub-par round at the MAAC Championships, 69 in the first round and 71 in the final 18.
Derby, who with Bassler played in the 2005 NCAA Regional and had the Greyhounds top finish at 88th, finished tied for 10th at this year's MAAC Championships.
Redfearn posted a final round 74 to tie for 14th overall at the MAAC Championships, his first postseason competition as a collegian. O'Keefe finished tied for 31st at the MAAC Championships, his first event for Loyola.
"We are looking forward to playing some of the top teams in the country like Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia Tech and Florida on a championship course," Bassler, also a co-captain, said.
