BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland golf team will return to Raleigh, North Carolina, for a second time this season, as it heads south for NC State's Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate at Lonnie Pool Golf Club this Saturday and Sunday.
"I am anxious for the opportunity for the guys to get back out on the course and compete in this weekend's tournament," head coach Chris Baloga said. "The field is strong as it features six programs that will surely be at large selections to the NCAA Regionals in May.
"Our level of play this spring has made significant improvements since our opening tournament in Arizona. I look for this weekend to hopefully be our breakthrough that will help us build momentum heading into the Patriot League Championships."
This weekend's 16-team tournament will feature Chattanooga, Columbia, Davidson, ETSU, Elon, Francis Marion, George Mason, Loyola, Manhattan, MTSU, NCSU, Penn, Richmond, South Florida, VCU, and Virginia. Juniors Connor Flach, Ethan Wall and Will Wears, in addition to sophomores Bennett Wisner and Jeremy Wall, will be participating in the tournament for the Greyhounds.
Play will begin 8:45 a.m. with 36 holes on Saturday, while the golfers will tee off at 8 a.m. on Sunday with 18 holes of play.
Earlier this season, at October's Wolfpack Intercollegiate, junior Will Wears knocked in five-straight birdies through the back nine holes to finish tied for eighth overall and lead Loyola to a tie for seventh place.
Following the Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate, the Greyhounds will head to Annapolis, Maryland, for the Patriot League Championships Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
