Loyola University Maryland freshman Matt Oshrine has been named the Patriot League Golfer of the Month for March, as announced by the League office Thursday.
Oshrine led the Greyhounds with a 72.11 stroke average through its first three tournaments this spring, shooting par-or-under through four of the nine rounds.
He opened the spring by shooting a 4-under 212 at the Snowman Getaway (Feb. 24-25) to finish tied for 15th among the 100 competitors. He then led the team with top-10 finishes at both the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (March 9-11) and the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate (March 23-25). At Pinehurst, he finished tied for fourth of 61 after shooting an 11-over 223. He followed that up with a 4-over 214 at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate to finished tied for eighth among the 141 participants.
Throughout the year, Oshrine leads the Greyhounds with a 72.71 stroke average. He’s shot under par through seven rounds and carded a low-round of 3-under 66 through the first round of the Stars and Stripes Invitational on October 6-7.
This marks the first career award for Oshine and the first monthy award for Loyola from the Patriot League. Oshrine is also the first Greyhound to be honored by the conference office for a month award since Bart Georget was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month on April 3, 2013.
Loyola will return to the course on Friday, April 11 when it heads to Wallace, N.C., for the two-day River Landing Intercollegiate.
