EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore Bart George has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for March, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
George was Loyola’s top finisher in two of three tournaments throughout March, including leading the Greyhounds to a runner-up finish at the Whiting-Turner Towson Individual earlier this week. George finished the three-day tournament on Tuesday tied for sixth place after carding a 9-over 225, with round scores of 74, 71 and 80, respectively.
A native of Arnold, Md., George began the month at the Charleston Shootout (3/4-5) by finishing 44th of 84 competitors with a score of 231. He then led the Greyhounds at the weather-shortened C&F Bank Intercollegiate, finishing the one-round tournament on March 26 tied for fifth at 1-under 69.
Throughout the month, George shot two rounds under par with a 75.00 scoring average, had two top-six finishes and posted a win-loss record of 300-52-10.
This marks the first career weekly honor for George, the 2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year, while it is also Loyola’s first award this year.
Loyola will return to the course on Saturday, April 20 for the two-day Wolfpack Spring Open. The tournament will mark the Greyhounds’ final tune-up before the 2013 MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., April 26-28.
