Loyola Men's Golf heads South to Charleston Southern Invitational in Charleston, S.C

April 3, 2009

The Loyola golf team is heading down South, where they will be competing in the Charleston Southern Invitational in Charleston, S.C. on Monday and Tuesday. This is the second to last tournament the men will be playing in before the MAAC Championships at the end of April.

"We need to do our thing and not worry about everyone else [the competition]," said Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "We need to go there and take care of business."

Loyola will be using a lineup which includes seniors Michael Mulieri and Mike O'Keefe, sophomore Alex Redfearn, and freshmen Jay Mulieri and Patrick McCormick. On Tuesday, Jay Mulieri was named the MAAC Player of the Month for March after averaging a 76.5 in two events. This will be O'Keefe's first event of the spring campaign.

Despite not playing at Coosaw Creek for several years, the Loyola team has great familiarity with this design of a layout. Coosaw is an Arthur Hills style course, and Beidleman believes the Greyhounds will respond well to the playing environment.

The Greyhounds are a week removed from an excellent showing at the Towson Invitational. They finished seventh out of 18 teams at Prospect Bay Golf Course, notching their best result during this spring season.

On Monday, Loyola will tee off at 9 a.m. and play two rounds. The final round of the tournament will be played on Tuesday.

"Hopefully we can build off our momentum we achieved last weekend at Towson and continue it into our weekend" said Beidleman.
