March 20, 2007

Baltimore, Md. - Former Loyola golfer T.J. Shuart shot a final-round 65 over the weekend and claimed medalist honors at the Florida Azalea Amateur. Shuart, who led the Greyhounds to three NCAA Tournaments from 2003-05, overcame a seven-shot deficit to win the Amateur.

Playing at Palatka Golf Course, Shuart finished the weekend with an even-par score of 210. Brad Stainsby, who began the day tied with Shuart seven shots behind 36-hole leaders Mu Hu and Minghao Wang, shot 66 to finish one shot behind Shuart. Former Georgia Tech golfer Michael Barbosa, Hu and Tommy Murray finished tied for third at four over par.

While at Loyola, Shuart posted one of the lowest four-year scoring averages in program history. He claimed the 2004 MAAC Championship and led the Greyhounds to three consecutive conference crowns. A native of Coral Springs, Fla., Shuart graduated in 2005.
