BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland golf team will open the spring portion of its schedule this weekend, hosting the Loyola Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Palms Course beginning on Sunday, February 28.
This will mark the fifth-straight year the Greyhounds have competed at the tournament, formerly the Snowman Getaway, while it's the third-consecutive year Loyola has hosted the event. "We're excited to be hosting this tournament," head coach Chris Baloga said. "The guys have been working hard all off season.
"The new facility has been great, too. So even with a lack of rounds outside, I expect us to come out ready to compete."
The 17-team tournament field will feature Air Force, Arkansas State, Connecticut, DePaul, Drake, Elon, Indiana, James Madison, Loyola, Manhattan, Missouri State, Murray State, Seton Hall, St. John's, UT-Martin, Utah Valley and William & Mary.
All seven Greyhounds will open their spring season this weekend, with junior Ethan Wall, junior Connor Flach, senior Jimmy Dengler, sophomore Jeremy Wall and junior Will Wears making up the scoring team. Sophomore Bennett Wisner and junior Brendan Peel will compete as individuals.
Play will begin at 7:30 a.m. with split tee times on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday's final round will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
Following the tournament, the Greyhounds will head to Williamsburg, Virginia, for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, March 20-22.
