CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team was picked as the favorites to win the 2015 Patriot League title, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
The Greyhounds defeated host Army to claim the 2014 title and picked up 13 of 14 possible first-place votes and 97 points to earn the top spot, while the Black Knights checked in second with 82 points and the remaining three first-place votes. Navy was third with 69 points, followed by host Colgate (57 points), Lehigh (45), Bucknell (43), Lafayette (41) and Holy Cross (14), as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors who were not permitted to vote for their own team.
Loyola returns two All-Patriot League First Team golfers from its seventh-straight conference championship team, with Matt Oshrine and Jimmy Dengler finishing third and fourth, respectively. The Greyhounds held a five-stroke advantage heading into the final round, before extending their lead to 10 to finish at 21-over 291 to capture the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
This year's tournament will be hosted by Colgate at the Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, New York. The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday, April 25 and the final 18 set for Sunday, April 26.
