Charleston, S.C. - Junior Matt Bassler fired a four-under 68 in Tuesday's final round of the Charleston Southern Invitational to help Loyola climb two spots in the final team standings. The Greyhounds, who posted a tournament score of 889, placed sixth in the 54-hole tournament.
Bassler's 68 was also Loyola's low score for the two-day tournament and the `Hounds only sub-par effort on Tuesday. Sophomore Blake Furgerson posted a 74 in helping Loyola register a team score of 296 on Day Two.
Senior captain Will Shriver led the Greyhounds over the three rounds with a tournament score of 219. He finished 15th in the field after his first round score of 69. Furgerson tied for 21st with a 222.
South Carolina won the tournament with a three-round team score of 861 at Crowfield Golf and Country's par 72, 6,928-yard course. Jacksonville finished second while Western Carolina rounded out the top three.
Loyola, which led the field in par three scoring, is now done with fall events. The Greyhounds begin play in the spring at the Pala Mesa Invitational in Pala Mesa, Calif. on February 12 and 13.
