ESTERO, Fla. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule with a fourth-place finish at the Homewood Hilton Airport Invite at Old Corkscrew Golf Club Tuesday.
Sophomore Matt Oshrine finished first for Loyola and tied for sixth overall, scoring 2-over par 218. He scored a 71 (-1) for his final round on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Jeremy Wall, who was tied for first place after Monday’s two rounds, finished second for the team with a ninth-place finish overall. Wall shot an even 72 to start off the tournament and followed with a two-below par in the second round. He shot 7-over 79 Tuesday to finish with a 5-over par 221.
Classmate Bennett Wisner had a strong second round, going just one-over par 73. He finished third for Loyola and tied for 27th overall.
Top-ranked Florida State won the tournament with a 3-over par 867, while Florida was second at 16-over par 880. The Greyhounds fell just three shots shy of third place, as St. Mary’s (CA) snagged third with a 31-over par 895. Loyola outshot fifth-place Florida Golf Coast by five shots to finish fourth at 34-over 898.
Florida’s AJ Crouch claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 214, four strokes ahead of Oshrine. Florida State’s Hank Lebioda, ranked 20th nationally, and Josh Lee, finished tied for second with even 216s.
With the end of this tournament, the Greyhounds complete their fall schedule and are set to kick off the spring portion of competition when they host the Snowman Getaway February 22-24, 2015 in Goodyear, Arizona.
