SEASIDE, Calif. - Jonathan Ross (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) shot one of his best rounds of the fall in the final round of the Saint Mary’s Invitational in Seaside, Calif., today as the Loyola University Maryland men’s golf team finished in 14th place.
Loyola carded an aggregate score of 917, 44-over par to finish ahead of UC Santa Barbara as teams played the final 18 holes on the Bayonet Golf Course. The squad recorded a 20-over 308 on Tuesday, four strokes better than the first-round score the Greyhounds posted in the first round at Bayonet.
Notre Dame won the team title with a final score of 861 (-3), and Tom Usher ofNotre Dame won the individual title with a final 212 (-4).
Ryan McCarthy (Silver Spring, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) led the Greyhounds with a tie for 34th after shooting a 4-over 76 in the final round. McCarthy produced two birdies and ended the tournament at 9-over par, marking the third straight event McCarthy has produced the best finish among Greyhounds in the field.
Jay Mulieri (Silver Spring, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) carded a 5-over 77 on the day to finish in a tie for 48th. Mulieri finished second among Greyhounds for the second time this season and trailed McCarthy by three strokes with a 12-over 228 overall.
Jonathan Ross turned in his second-best round of the fall with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to tie for 57th. Ross netted three birdies before recording his first bogey and ended the day with five birdies in the round. Ross improved 22 spots from his first round position and ended at 15-over.
Alex Redfearn (Boynton Beach, Fla./Pope John Paul II) finished in a tie for 76th with a 12-over 84 in the final round. The senior ended the tournament at 20-over.
Patrick McCormick (Weston, Fla./University School) carded an 86 on Tuesday to finish in 82nd place. McCormick finished with an aggregate score of 243, 27-over par.
The Invitational marked the final fall tournament for the Greyhounds. The team returns to the links in February for The Match Play in Lutz, Fla.
