San Jose, Calif. - The Loyola men's golf team shot a final round 299 at the 2007 Santa Clara University Invitational at Silver Creek in San Jose, Calif. The Greyhounds, who finished the three-round event with a team total of 898, wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a 12th-place showing in a strong 15-team field.
Senior Matt Bassler and junior Michael Mulieri led the Greyhounds over the 54-hole tournament with scores of 222. Mulieri shot a final round 73 for his score, while Bassler closed with a 76 after rounds of 72 and 74.
Sophomore Keith Hall was three strokes back of Bassler and Mulieir after his final round 76, while senior Chris Derby wrapped up the scoring with a 229 thanks to Tuesday's two-over par 74. Nick Brassill also posted an 83 for the Greyhounds on Tuesday.
Portland rallied to win the tournament with an impressive team score of 858, while host Santa Clara took second with an 859. No. 33 Oklahoma rounded out the Top 3 with a three-round 869.
The Greyhounds will return to California to open the spring season at the Carlton Oaks Invitational in Santee on February 11-12.
