San Jose, Calif. - The Loyola men's golf team opened the Santa Clara University Invitational with a First Round score of 296 behind the play of senior co-captain Matt Bassler and sophomore Keith Hall, who each posted an opening round 72 to lead the Greyhound effort.

Senior co-captain Chris Derby also scored well with a Round One 75, while junior Michael Mulieri added a 77 to give the Greyhounds four scorers in the 70s. Nick Brassill posted an 80 to round out the Loyola effort for Round One.

"We struggled closing our rounds out today," said Head Coach Tom Beidleman. "Both rounds got of to good enough starts but we didn't finish the way that we are capable of. We are very much looking forward to closing the event tomorrow with a strong, collective effort."

No. 31 Oklahoma leads the tournament with a two-round 565, while Portland (573) and host Santa Clara (574) round out the top three.

Tuesday's final round begins with an 11 a.m. shotgun start.
