HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Junior Jon Ross leads all individual competitors after the first round of the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort, while the Loyola University Maryland golf team sits third overall.
Ross shot a season-best 1-under 71 to hold a one-stroke lead over Johnson & Wales’ Josh Briere and Bethune-Cookman’s Alex Clapp.
Senior Jay Mulieri and freshman Jack Whelan are tied for second on the squad - and tied for 11th overall - after each carding a 4-over 76 on the day. Senior Ryan McCarthy finished the first round tied for 35th with an 82 and junior Jason Burton is tied for 43rd with an 84.
As a team, Loyola sits one stroke shy of second place and six strokes shy of the leader. Johnson & Wales (Fla.) leads the competition with a 299, while Bethune-Cookman sits second at 304. The Greyhounds combined for a score of 305.
Loyola will return to action tomorrow for the second round of the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate. Competition begins at 7:45 a.m.
