NORMAL, Ill. - Four Loyola University Maryland golfers finished the first day of the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate amongst the tournament's top 26 individuals, led by Patrick McCormick in second place, and the Greyhounds sit third out of 15 teams after 18 holes.
McCormick carded a score of 32 on the front nine at the Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill., and shot an even-par 70. The sophomore is a shot back of Bradley's Zach Wanken who leads the 90-player field.
The Greyhounds finished the first round with a score of 16-over, 296, three shots back of host Illinois State. Loyola-Chicago is second, one shot off the lead.
Western Illinois, Missouri-Kansas City and Bradley are tied for fourth, five shots back of the Greyhounds.
Sophomore Ryan McCarthy is tied for 15th after the first round after shooting 4-over 74. Junior Alex Redfearn and sophomore Jay Mulieri are two of 15 players tied for 26th after carding rounds of 6-over 76.
Loyola's fifth golfer, senior Keith Hall, is tied for 73rd at 10-over.
