WEST POINT, N.Y. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore Jimmy Dengler and freshman Matt Oshrine finished second and third overall, respectively, to lead the golf team to a runner-up finish at Army’s Stars and Stripes Invitational at West Point Golf Course Monday.
Despite a 45-minute weather delay through the final round, Dengler tied for the day’s best score, shooting a 1-over 70 to finish three-strokes shy of Army’s Marcus Plunkett and one shot ahead of Oshrine. Plunkett won individual honors with a 2-under 205, while Dengler shot a 1-over 208 and Oshrine carded a 2-over 209.
Sophomore Keegan Boone was third for the Greyhounds, finishing tied for 11th overall at 9-over 216. Senior Brendan Lemp was one stroke behind Boone, taking 14th with a 10-over 217, and freshman Connor Flach tied for 26th at 17-over 224.
Army captured the team title with a 13-over 841, while the Greyhounds were second at 18-over 846 and Lehigh was third with a team score of 44-over 872.
Loyola will return to action on Sunday, October 20 for the three-day ODU/OBX Intercollegiate in Outer Banks, N.C.
