RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior Will Wears knocked in five-straight birdies through the back nine holes of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon to lead the Loyola University Maryland golf team to a tie for seventh place at NC State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Wears' hot streak propelled him up 35 spots and into a tie for eighth place, marking his first collegiate top-10 finish. Wears finished the two-round tournament at 1-over 143.
As a team, the Greyhounds finished with an aggregate score of 18-over 586 to finish tied with Chattanooga.
Freshman Morgan Egloff was Loyola's second finisher, turning in a score of 4-over 146 to finish tied for 23rd.
Junior Connor Flach rounded out the Greyhounds competing with a 13-over 155, placing him in a tie for 69th.
Robin Petersson led Augusta to the team title, shooting a 6-under 136 to take the individual title, as well. Western Carolina's Tyler Lail and West Virginia's Max Sear finished tied for second at 3-under 139.
NC State, the tournament hosts, and UNC-Greensboro tied for second overall, each shooting 7-over 575.
The Greyhounds will return to Maryland and head to the Terrapin Invitational at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20.
