HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. -
Loyola played 18 holes in the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate Friday, posting a combined 314 and tying for 11th place after one round of play on Mission Resort Inn's El Campeon Course. The Greyhounds will continue play at the Orlando-area course Saturday morning.
Florida Gulf Coast currently leads the event with a 1-over 285. Host Saint John's is in sixth after opening with a combined 298 (+14).
Back in his home state, Alex Redfearn opened with a 2-over 73 and is just five shots off Daniel Mazziotta's (Florida Gulf Coast) 3-under lead. With the course playing around at 77.50, the Boynton Beach native was well below average. Redfearn fired a front-nine 36 to start off and stayed consistent with a 37 on the back.
This is the second time this season that Redfearn has opened up a tournament near the top. At last month's Manor Intercollegiate in Virginia, Redfearn was in fifth place after the first day of play and finished the event tied for eighth.
