Alex Redfearn Cards Greyhounds' Low Round in Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate

Loyola played 18 holes in the Mission Inn Fall Intercollegiate Friday, posting a combined 314 and tying for 11th place after one round of play on Mission Resort Inn's El Campeon Course. The Greyhounds will continue play at the Orlando-area course Saturday morning.

Florida Gulf Coast currently leads the event with a 1-over 285. Host Saint John's is in sixth after opening with a combined 298 (+14).

Back in his home state, Alex Redfearn opened with a 2-over 73 and is just five shots off Daniel Mazziotta's (Florida Gulf Coast) 3-under lead. With the course playing around at 77.50, the Boynton Beach native was well below average. Redfearn fired a front-nine 36 to start off and stayed consistent with a 37 on the back.

This is the second time this season that Redfearn has opened up a tournament near the top. At last month's Manor Intercollegiate in Virginia, Redfearn was in fifth place after the first day of play and finished the event tied for eighth.

Sophomore Jay Mulieri finished the day in a tie for 39 th. Mulieri shot an 8-over 79 Friday, just one stroke better than teammate Ryan McCarthy. McCarthy finished at 9-over (T44), after going 41-39.

Freshmen Jason Burton and Will Handley made their Greyhounds debuts Friday, with Burton shooting an 11-over 82 (40-42) and Handley two shots back with an 84 (44-40).
