Owings Mills, MD - T.J. Shuart led Loyola's golf team with a 73 in the final round as the Greyhounds shot a 54-hole team total of 917 at the NCAA Ping/Golfweek Preview Tournament held at the par-70, 7,120-yard Caves Valley Golf Club on September 26th and 27th.
Shuart, a senior captain, rebounded from an incorrectly signed scorecard that resulted in disqualification from Sunday's second round to produce three birdies and the same score he earned in Round One. Paired with the defending NCAA and United States Amateur Champion in Ryan Moore of UNLV during Round One, Shuart tied Moore at plus-three and consistently out-drove the future PGA Tour pro.
Sophomore Will Shriver tied for 55th-place after shooting a 74 in Round One, 77 in Round Two, and 74 again in Round Three. Shriver recorded seven birdies throughout the 54 holes with the highlight birdie coming on a long putt at the daunting par-4, 463-yard 11th hole that dog-legs to the right and then rises up a 35-foot slope to a multi-tiered green.
Oklahoma State won the Preview with a 54-hole total of 848. Cowboys freshman Pablo Martin, playing in his first collegiate tournament, took the individual title as he fired an impressive 69-66-71=206 to finish four-under on the tournament. Texas' Matthew Rosenfeld grabbed second at two-under while Moore came back with a final-round 66 to finish at one-under on the tournament and tied for third with Arizona State's Jesse Meuller.
