Loyola Trails St. John's After Day 1 Of Hawks Invite

HARTFORD, CT - The Loyola University Maryland men's golf team finished the first day - and first round - of play at the Hartford Hawks Invitational in second place. The second round was cut short because of an hour and a half delay this morning due to fog. The final holes will be played tomorrow morning before the start of the final round.

Loyola finished the opening round with a 3-over 291 and trails only defending champion St. John's by two strokes. The Red Storm posted a 1-over 289.

Senior Patrick McCormick leads the Greyhounds after finishing the first round tied for second overall with a 3-under 69. Senior Jay Mulieri is second after carding an even 72, while freshmen Bart George and Jack Whelan each shot a 3-over 75. Mulieri currently sits tied for 11th overall, while George and Whelan are tied for 33rd.

Senior Ryan McCarthy is tied for 40th after carding a 4-over 76.

Individually, sophomore Andrew McGill is tied for 60th after shooting an 80 in the opening round.

Play will begin tomorrow with players finishing up 2-5 holes of competition in the second round before beginning the final round.
