SOUTH KENT, Conn. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bull’s Bridge Golf Club in fourth place on Tuesday. Freshman Matt Oshrine was the Greyhounds’ top finisher, claiming 10th place, with a three-round score of 5-over 221.
Sophomore Fletcher Sokul carded a team-best score through the final round, shooting a 1-over 73 to move up 24 spots and finish tied for 50th at 18-over 234.
Sophomore Jimmy Dengler and junior Bart George rounded out the Greyhounds competing. Dengler finished tied for 63rd with a 22-over 238, while George, playing as an individual, was tied for 38th with a 15-over 231.
As a team, Loyola shot a 32-over 896, six strokes shy of second-place Connecticut. Rutgers won the team title with a 4-over 868, while Hartford was second at 13-over 877. The Huskies carded a team score of 26-over 890.
Individually, Hartford’s Evan Russell won with a 9-under 207. Temple’s Brandon Matthews and Rutgers’ Doug Walters were tied for second at 4-under 212.
Loyola will return to the course on Sunday, Oct. 6, when it heads to West Point, N.Y., for Army’s two-day Stars and Stripes Invitational.
