SOUTH KENT, Conn. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team finished the first day of the Hartford Hawk Invitational at Bull's Bridge Golf Course in third place and just four strokes from first place.
The Greyhounds led after the first round with a total of 286, but sit third entering the final round with a two-round total of 12-over 588. Loyola shot 302 through the second round.
Rutgers leads the way with a two-round total of 8-over 584, while Hartford is second at 9-over 585. Temple trails Loyola by six strokes and sits fourth with an 18-over 594.
Freshman Matt Oshrine leads the Greyhounds with a two-round total of 2-under 142, while senior Brendan Lemp is tied for ninth at 2-over 146. Lemp shot a round-best 2-under 70 through the opening round.
Freshman Connor Flach is tied for 18th at 5-over 149 with round scores of 72 and 77, respectively.
Junior Bart George and sophomore Jimmy Dengler are tied with five others for 24th at 7-over 151. George shot a 77 and 74, respectively, while Dengler carded a 72 in the first round and a 79 through the second.
Hartford’s Evan Russell leads the individual leaderboard with a 7-under 137. Connecticut’s Corey Birch and Rutgers’ Doug Walters are tied for second at 4-under 140.
Loyola will return to the course Tuesday morning for the third and final round.
